The Skechers Sundown Festival 2025 isn’t just bringing the beats to Singapore — it’s leading a cultural movement toward sustainability in the live music industry. Making history on 4 July 2025, the festival became the launchpad for Southeast Asia’s first Music Climate Action Pledge, and was also officially awarded the prestigious 4-Leaf Eco Event Certification by the Singapore Environment Council — a dual milestone that positions the event as Asia’s first green music festival of its kind.
Setting the Stage for Sustainability
Held at the iconic Haw Par Villa, the 13th edition of Sundown Festival introduced Gaia — a newly established pillar of the festival dedicated to sustainability. Gaia’s immersive experiences span every aspect of the event, from eco-friendly fringe activities and plant-based F&B offerings to green-powered art installations and sustainability-focused talks and workshops.
At the heart of Gaia’s programming was the inaugural Music Climate Action Summit, a first for the region. It brought together artists, industry leaders, and environmental advocates to co-launch the #PlasticFreeParty movement in partnership with the Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, founded by DJ and activist BLOND:ISH. The initiative aims to eliminate single-use plastics — starting with straws, cups, and water bottles — from live music events across the region within the next 12 months.

The Music Climate Action Pledge: A Regional First
Spearheaded by the festival alongside The Wedge Asia and Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, the Music Climate Action Pledge calls on venues, promoters, artists, and events to commit to phasing out the “big three” single-use plastics, and to work together toward more environmentally conscious event operations.
The first cohort of pledge signatories includes 10 pioneering organisations such as:
Sundown Festival
Resorts World Sentosa
Music Matters Live
Ice Cream Sundays
Tanjong Beach Club
Soul Collective
Groove Top
Wild Pearl
Somewhere Out There by Fabrik
Sivilian Affairs
The pledge includes quarterly peer-sharing sessions, access to sustainable supplier directories, and progress tracking to be shared at the Music Climate Action Summit 2026.
A Certified Eco Event
Alongside this major sustainability commitment, the festival was also conferred the 4-Leaf Eco Event Certificate by the Singapore Environment Council — the highest possible rating for events that demonstrate excellence in areas such as resource conservation, sustainable procurement, carbon management, and waste reduction.
“This year marks our maiden voyage into the new frontier of sustainability, and we are immensely honoured to be recognised for our endeavour,” said Kelvin Goh, Co-Founder of the Skechers Sundown Festival. “Receiving the Eco Event Certification reinforces our commitment to be Asia’s definitive music festival — one that entertains with purpose.”
The recognition was celebrated with a symbolic presentation from Mr Cheang Kok Chung, Executive Director of the Singapore Environment Council, who applauded the festival’s ability to credibly demonstrate sustainability leadership in a way that inspires confidence among stakeholders.

A Movement Fueled by Music and Community
Beyond certifications and pledges, what makes this movement powerful is the community of partners and advocates backing it. From reusable systems by MUUSE and carbon assessments by Unravel Carbon, to energy solutions by GoRental and global advocacy through Bye Bye Plastic Foundation — every detail of the Skechers Sundown Festival 2025 has been carefully designed to leave a lighter footprint on the planet.
As Stephanie Dickson, founder of The Wedge Asia and host of the Climate Action Summit, put it:
“Music connects us, and collective action is the solution. This pledge is about transforming the live music industry in Singapore into a leader in climate action.”
And with artists, fans, and organisers uniting for a common purpose, the beat of change is only getting louder.
