Dear Insiders,
International Women’s Day often celebrates women breaking glass ceilings and leading change. But empowerment doesn’t only happen in boardrooms or on global stages — sometimes it begins in the quiet moments at home.
If you have young children, you’ll recognise the scene: you’re stepping out of the shower when the bathroom door suddenly swings open. Your child wanders in, asking for something completely unrelated. To them, your nudity isn’t shocking. It’s just…normal.
Child development experts say young children often see bodies neutrally unless adults signal embarrassment or shame. Those everyday moments can become opportunities to teach something far more powerful — body confidence.
The truth is, children learn how to feel about their bodies by watching us. The way we talk about ageing, weight, stretch marks, or even how we react to our reflection can shape how they see themselves years later.
So if we want to raise confident girls, the conversation might need to start with us first.
